Nineteen Year Old Blues

I got the nineteen year old blues
I can smoke my cigarettes
but I can't buy my own booze

and I know why
my big brother he'll buy and buy

So I was riding in my car, and,
riding shotgun was my herbal mason jar
whats wrong with that?
homegrown blend matter of fact

I probably should have been going
just a little more slow
and theres a cop, hey,
what do you know
he pulls me over

....good thing I was sober

May I see your license and registration please?
I handed both documents over to him
with such gentle ease
he said whats that smell?

...mother nature can't you tell?

he set off on the marijuana illegal rant
and I said thank you sir
i'm going home to water my plants
cause I live in America
and I was taught not to be scared of ya

I got the nineteen year old blues
I can roll my own joints
but I can't buy my own booze

and I know why
my big brother he'll buy and buy

A chemistry book taught me
how to make my own wine
and though I can't consume it
i'm still feeling fine

And if a scientist can genetically alter
the food I ingest and if the national
government can shut down a forest
without a protest
we got bigger problems on our hands,
export your business to a foreign land

I got the nineteen year old blues
I can shoot a gun but I can't
buy my own booze

I was walking through down town memphis
had my guitar for a gig
and hey what do you know
the bouncer won't let me in
he said wheres your ID?

....fake one or real one, which you wanna see?

I got that nineteen year old blues
I can sing in bars
and I get free booze

And I know why
age can't determine if you're wise.
